How Much Vitamin C Do We Really Need?
The recommended daily allowance for vitamin C is 90 mg daily for men and 75 mg daily for women. This vitamin not only supports immune function, but also promotes heart health, is a collagen-building ingredient needed for skin, digestive tract and joint health, and has been shown to kill some cancer cells, among others.
In addition to taking vitamin C from food sources, you can take it orally as a supplement or give it intravenously. How you get it determines how much you need. When taken orally, as we are used to, intestinal absorption determines, among other things, how much is actually concentrated in your blood. It’s also important to note that stress destroys vitamin C and who isn’t currently under stress? Intravenous administration bypasses digestion and absorption more effectively.
According to cardiovascular researcher and pharmacist James DiNicolantunio, the optimal dose can be as high as 1250 mg twice a day, and even 2.5 grams a day doesn’t always result in a feeling of fullness, there are still benefits.
Remember that vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and is therefore not stored in fat cells. Hence, it must be drunk every day. Also, part of your intake will be eliminated. Studies show that bioavailability is effective and complete for a single 200 mg. Dose. The test does not release vitamin C below 100 mg. Dose. It is therefore concluded that the minimum effective dose should be 200 mg daily. The optimal dose is likely to be much higher.
For example: You need to take 1,250 mg. twice daily vitamin C to 80 μm (μm means the concentration in the blood); and 5 g (5000 mg) per day to get 250 µg m to achieve. Even consuming 2.5 grams per day does not always lead to saturated vitamin C levels in the blood. It’s also important to note that for best results, it is more effective to take it in divided doses throughout the day than in one large dose.
Many years ago I had a bioimpedance test which showed that my body needed more vitamin C than I was consuming. And I think I’ll take a lot! Increase my divided dose intake to 4000 mg. Every day it helps me control some serious gum problems. When I’m fighting the flu or exposed to someone, I usually increase it to 1000 mg. per hour throughout the day for a day or two.
Many naturopaths recommend taking vitamin C throughout the day until you reach gut tolerance, i.e. H. Until you get diarrhea and then sacrifice a little amount that is effective for you.
My advice is to take care of your body and use vitamin C every day. It is not stored so that you do not consume too many fat-soluble vitamins. It’s important to drink enough every day during cold and flu season.
